Fixture lists
Carmarthenshire League Tables
18th April, Teigrod Teilo (2) v's Johnstown (6)
Having already completed the cup and league double, Johnstown were as efficient as usual, and got the job done...
veni, vidi, vici (to coin a phrase).
The Teigrod goals were scored by Johnny, and Alex, the latter dramatically in off the cross bar.
11th April, Camford (1) v's Teigrod Teilo (2)
The first half of this contest for the league runners-up slot was all one way traffic, resulting in a 2-0 lead for the visitors at half time, goals scored by Sion and Johnny.
In the second half Teigrod Teilo had chances to extend their lead but with little more than ten minutes remaining Camford pulled a goal back against the run of play. Llandeilo however stuck to their task and thanks to some resolute defending came away with 3 points and the league runners up medals in the bag, a vast improvement on last year's mid table placing and a great achievement for a fledgling club of this size.
All at Teigrod Teilo would like to Congratulate Johnstown on winning this closely fought U13 league. Teigrod Teilo and Johnstown play their last league fixture at Tre Gib this Saturday where a win for Llandeilo would place them 1 point behind the winners after 16 games of football. It was that close.
1st April, Teigrod Teilo (3) v's Ammanford (0)
Despite the date of this mid-week fixture, there were no fools on this pitch today as both teams produced excellent performances for this local derby.
In the first half, there were chances at both ends, but neither side could take the lead. At half-time the score was still 0-0 and evenly balanced until with less than 10 minutes left on the clock,
Llandeilo were awarded a penalty which was duly dispatched by Finley (1-0). Ammanford tried to respond but were thwarted by some brave keeping from Dafydd in the Llandeilo goal.
William scored the home team's second goal with a precise finish (2-0), and with seconds to go, Luke scored the third made from a Rhys pass (3-0).
In the Teigrod midfield, Hywel and Alex were busy across the park in front of the back four of Cai, Jack, Ieuan, and (man of the match) Sion who all earned their teams first clean sheet in the league this year.
End to end stuff !!!
Thanks to all the supporters from both towns who turned out at Tre Gib to watch this exciting game…10 wins, 2 draws, 2 lost, 2 to go.
28th March, Teigrod Teilo (3) v's Tumble (3)
It’s still mathematically possible for both Teigrod Teilo and Camford to take the League top spot away from Johnstown, but for this to happen now relies on bottom of the table Dafen getting a result against Johnstown on April 11th.
As with their last three fixtures, Teigrod Teilo should have buried this game in the first half,
but by the half time whistle the score was only 1-0 to the home team thanks to an eight pass move finished off by Luke, and some brave goalkeeping by the Tumble keeper.
Having ridden out the first half storm, Tumble came out fighting and only a stunning finger tip save by Dafydd kept the Teigrod in front,
but this was short lived as the visitors scored two goals in quick succession (1-2).
Finley leveled the game with a rare right foot shot (2-2) and William put the home team in front again following some great midfield work engineered by Sion (3-2),
and that’s how it should have stayed, but with ten minutes to go the Teigrod’s once more capitulated and watched Tumble’s equalizer loop agonizingly into the top corner of the net (3-3).
Of course it’s not about winning or losing, it’s taking part that matters, but in this instance it really ought to have been about the winning.
As one old first division football scout once said to the wife "it’s football, it’s not life or death... it’s far more important than both of them" !!
21st March, Dafen (4) v's Teigrod Teilo (9)
This away victory gives Teigrod Teilo nine wins from twelve and keeps them in contention for the league title, but they made hard work of it at times allowing Dafen to net three goals in the first half. Only a trade mark free kick from Finley and a poacher's tap in by Ieuan gave Llandeilo something to build on in the second half.
The real Teigrod Teilo decided to turn up after the re-start with seven goals scored by Johnny, Luke(2), a cracking edge of the box shot that gave Alex a much deserved first goal of the season, and a late hat-trick from Rhys.
In the closing stages of the game Teigrod Teilo briefly touched the self destruct button once more and Dafen took full advantage by pulling back a fourth goal, but the portly lady had already completed her Aria (so to speak).
14th March, Ammanford (2) v's Teigrod Teilo (3)
Following their recent quarter-final exits from both the West Wales and Carmarthen cups, Teigrod Teilo needed to get back to winning ways today in order to keep up the pressure on (top of the table) Johnstown. With Ammanford perhaps focusing half an eye on next week's cup semi-final against Camford, today was the day for the Teigrod's to regain some form.
The first half saw Llandeilo peppering the Ammanford goal with numerous shots, but Ammanford held firm until the latter stages of the half when the deadlock was finally broken with goals for the visitors from Sion (0-1) and Rhys (0-2).
Within 10 minutes of the re-start, Ammanford's Callum Jackson beat the Llandeilo offside trap to put the home team back in contention (1-2), but minutes later Llandeilo responded with Hywel netting a Captain's goal from a goal mouth skirmish (1-3), and that should have been it, although Callum Jackson obviously had other ideas and with minutes left on the clock another piece of individual dribbling and finishing brought Ammanford back into contention again (2-3),
and we're it not for some resolute defending and an excellent point blank save by Dafydd, Llandeilo might have been punished for not putting the game beyond reach in the first forty.
Thanks again to all the travelling supporters... As it stands, Teigrod Teilo now need 12 points from a possible 15 to guarantee the league runners up slot,
and with remaining fixtures against Tumble, Camford, Ammanford, Johnstown, and Dafen, it's sure to be a nail biting climax to the season... now where did I put my hair dye!!
7th March, Teigrod Teilo (3) v's Camford (4)
Carmarthenshire League Cup - Quarter Final
"What light through yonder window breaks?"
Oh the glorious highs and tragic low's of competetive football!!
I'm not sure if this match was a farce, a tragedy, or both, but it was the third act of a learning trilogy...
and todays lesson was that (a), a place at the top table is earned not given, and (b), to win important games requires 100% throughout,
for had Teigrod Teilo played the first half the way they played the second they would have won this game with ease.
Yes, this really was a game of two halves. Camford won the first half (3-0) through sheer guts, determination, and muscle power.
Llandeilo won the second half (3-1) with some sparkling football, belated self belief, and some real quality play across the park.
Llandeilo's goals were scored by Hywel, Rhys, & Celt.
The first, a Captain's goal par excellance - a cracking shot in off the crossbar.
However, "sufferance being the badge of all our tribe", with only five minutes left on the clock and the teams level at 3-3, the difference between winning and loosing came down to
a pinpoint and unstoppable cross into the Llandeilo six yard area from Ashton (Camford's captain and talisman).
Although with seconds to go, Llandeilo had a chance to take the game into extra time, alas... twas not to be!
For those of you old enough to remember the 1970's TV series "The Flashing Blade", the lyrics to the theme tune went like this...
"You've got to fight for what you want, for all that you believe,
It's right to fight for what you want, to live the way you please.
As long as we have done our best, then no one can do more,
'cos love and life and football games are well worth fighting for"
Ok, so I changed a couple of words in the last line, but you get the point !!!
(Gutted of Llandeilo)
28th February, Bryncoch (7) v's Teigrod Teilo (2)
West Wales Cup - Quarter Final
In a town the size of Llandeilo, for any sporting team to reach a regional quarter final is an achievement in itself,
and one that everyone involved (players, coaches, & supporters) should feel especially proud of.
Yes, to reach the semi's would have been nice, but Neath's finest had other ideas.
Within seconds of the kick off Bryncoch were a goal ahead, and the home team continued to dominate across the park, netting a further 3 goals by half time (4-0).
Following the restart Bryncoch took their foot off the pedal allowing Llandeilo to play football,
culminating in a goal by super sub Ieuan (4-1), and another incredible save by man of the match Dafydd,
but against the run of the play Llandeilo found themselves picking the ball out of their own net yet again (5-1).
With nothing to loose Llandeilo went on the attack and were awarded a penalty for their efforts which Mathew duly dispatched (5-2),
but with the game stretched and minutes to go the home team netted twice more in quick succession (7-2).
Thanks to all the travelling supporters who made the journey, and everyone at Teigrod Teilo wishes Bryncoch all the best for the semi's!!!
But hold the front page... the cup drama isn't over yet, it transpires that Teigrod Teilo have drawn Camford at home next week in the Carmarthenshire Cup Quarter final...
so if you can make it, head down to Tre Gib next Saturday morning, it won't be dull you can be sure of that!!!
21st February, Johnstown (6) v's Teigrod Teilo (2)
During the first 25 minutes of this game Llandeilo put on an exquisite display of pass and move football,
whilst Johnstown performed a master class in "route 1" football with solid defending,
culminating in a spectacular gaol-line diving headed clearence from the home team,
one of the best individual bits of defending this reporter has ever seen, and one which turned the game.
With less than 10 minutes of the first half remaining, and Llandeilo still stunned by not being a goal ahead,
Johnstown scored 3 goals in quick succession to effectively put the game out of reach (3-0).
Throughout the second half, Johnstown only made a couple of rare defensive errors which allowed Johnny to head home Llandeilo's first,
and Rhys to get the away team's second. Whilst at the other end of the park, Llandeilo just couldn't find the answer to Johnstown's
"route 1" game, which produced a further 3 goals (6-2).
Had it not been for some brave and acrobat goalkeeping from Dafydd, and Sion's (Man of the match)
determination in mid-field, Johnstown might well have scored many more.
It didn't help that almost a third of the Llandeilo squad were unavailable for this fixture (either on holiday or injured),
but that aside, over two seasons, Johnstown remain the only team in the league that Llandeilo have not yet managed to beat.
The return match at Tre Gib will be the last chance this year to remedy the situation.
14th February, Pontarddulais (1) v's Teigrod Teilo (6)
This week the "real" Teigrod Teilo decided to turn up, and at times played some sublime pass and move football.
Whilst the midfield (Ieuan, Hywel, Alex, Sion, & Mathew) were busy controlling the game, the two strikers (Rhys & Luke)
both scored a hat trick with most of the goals being made by the Llandeilo defence.
Rhys opened the scoring from a Cai through ball (0-1), and then found the net again after pressing the Pontarddulais keeper (0-2).
Then before half time, Luke opened his account thanks to a through ball from Jack (0-3).
Having kept a clean sheet for the first half, in the second half, Dafydd (the Llandeilo Keeper) was given a rare run out on the pitch,
and although things didn't go to plan when Pontarddulais pulled a goal back early on (1-3), normal service was soon resumed.
Luke's second goal was provided by Johnny (1-4), but both strikers had saved the best till last.
Following a period of Llandeilo pressure, Rhys completed his hat trick with a cracking shot in off the Pontarddulais cross bar (1-5),
and not to be out done, Luke headed in his third from a Finley cross (1-6).
Full marks to Pontarddulais for rarely letting their heads go down, keeping the scoreline respectable,
and making it an enjoyable game to watch. This was a much needed Llandeilo victory,
and a great warm up for the next two away games against league leaders Johnstown,
and Bryncoch in the quarter finals of the West Wales Cup.
31st January, Teigrod Teilo (2) v's Loughor (4)
Loughor deserved to win this game, they were stronger in midfield, first to the ball,
and had an incredibly well organised and mature defence.
It didn't help that Llandeilo seemed to have used up all their luck in the previous weeks cup match,
or that the home team only appeared to turn up (mentally) in the second half.
Loughor opened the scoring within 5 minutes of the kick off, and although Llandeilo we're sloppy in defence,
on another day this goal could have easily been given offside (0-1).
Similarly, Loughor's second goal came from a well taken penalty for a handball in the box (0-2).
Ball to hand or hand to ball? Either way, lady luck was definetely not shining on Llandeilo today
because at the other end of the park the home team could (and perhaps should) have scored at least twice.
In the second half Loughor went three goals clear following a comody of errors in the Llandeilo box (0-3).
Then for a while, Llandeilo started to play football again resulting in Celt managing to beat the imposing Loughor defence in the air,
to Head in Llandeilo's first from a corner (1-3). This come back was short lived however as soon after,
a Llandeilo clearance was deemed to be a back pass, and Loughor made sure of a finish from an indirect free kick in the box (1-4).
Celt managed to claw back a bit of Llandeilo pride with a dribble past the Loughor keeper for his second (2-4), but it was too late,
and as well as having all the luck on the day, to a certain extent, Loughor were handed this victory.
Tesco U13 West Wales Cup
24th January, Teigrod Teilo (2) v's Lamphey (2) (aet)
(Teigrod Teilo won 5-4 on pens)
With Lamphey flying high in the Pembrokeshire league and Llandeilo still the only unbeaten team in Carmarthenshire,
this was always going to be a closely fought contest, and it was!!
This was a proper cup match with high drama which included the Lamphey keeper being carted off to hospital with concussion
(all at Teigrod Teilo wish him well), and with nothing to seperate the two teams after extra time, a penalty shoot out,
which itself included re-takes and near misses, thus making the drama last until the final kick, with which,
Llandeilio now enter the draw for the Regional quarter finals - a first in the clubs history!!
During open play the Llandeilo goals were scored by Johnny & Sion.
Penalties scored by Finley, Jack, Johnny, Sion, & Daffyd.
Roberts (Carmarthenshire) Cup Preliminary round
20th December, Tumble (3) v's Teigrod Teilo (8)
Having previously only drawn against Tumble in the league, Llandeilo had a score to settle, but once again, Tumble (this time with only 9 players) made life difficult for the visitors and soaked up everything that was thrown at them. After numerous attempts on goal, including a close free kick by Finley (man of the match) and William hitting the post, mid way through the first half Hywel finally opened the scoring by dribbling past the Tumble keeper, who had an excellent match (0-1). Tumble found the net soon after to level things (1-1), then Rhys found the net twice in quick succession to put the visitors two goals to the good (1-3), the second goal resulting from some great work by Alex, but again Tumble wouldn't lie down and put an unstoppable shot past Jack (the Teigrod reserve keeper who was strong throughout) just before half time (2-3).
The second half started with more of the same, lots of chances for Llandeilo, followed by Tumble levelling the score on the break (3-3), but from then on Llandeilo started to get some shape back into their game and pass the ball around. William scored the Teigrod's 4th from a tight angle (3-4), then Luke netted his first and the away teams 5th (3-5) followed by Williams second, a carbon copy of his previous goal (3-6).
Before Rhys finally netted the last two Llandeilo goals to make a personal tally of four for the day (3-8), there was a period of play where everyone seemed to be hitting the woodwork, notably Sion and Alex, who both had good games on the day. Ieuan, Johnny, & Mathew also all had their moments, but at the end of the day Tumble should be applauded for their tenacity and causing Llandeilo to made hard work of this fixture...
P.S. keep fit over Xmas lads, more wunning and less Wii!!
Tesco WWFA U13 Cup (Round 2)
November 15th, Murton Rovers (0) v's Teigrod Teilo (7)
This was a game of two squads: While Teigrod could boast a full team and 5 subs, Murton Rovers were hit by a sickness bug and could only field 10. Notwithstanding this numerical disadvantage, Murton rose to the Cup challenge and produced a performance and a match which was more competitive than the scoreline suggests.
Teigrod in an unfamiliar crimson and black away strip (thanks to Johnstown for the loan) took to the field under leaden skies and blustery conditions and immediately put Murton under pressure. Hywel and Rhys harried the Murton defence and from a second corner early in the game, Johnny angled a great header inside the far post. Murton were spurred on by this and Jack and the rest of the defence were called in to make a series of important tackles. Dafydd in goal was also busy and saved well as Murton began to apply some pressure.
Teigrod responded and Hywel, commanding in midfield, threaded a great through ball to Celt who took his goal very coolly. This seemed to deflate Murton who were forced to do more and more defending, their number 4 in particular was called upon to make a number of crucial tackles and interceptions. Sion was settling into the rhythm of the game and the Teigrod midfield was passing the ball about well and refused to allow Murton back into the game. Following concerted pressure, Alex made a great run into the box and a mistimed tackle saw a penalty rightly awarded to the away team. Finley showed no nerves as he scored the penalty with a well placed spot kick in-off the far post.
Teigrod were now dominant and William flew past a number of wouldbe tacklers to set up Luke for a simple tap in. Hywel made it 5-0 with a superb strike from outside the penalty area and he wrapped up the half with another well taken goal. in between Hywel's two goals Dafs was called upon to deny the Murton number 8 after a weaving run through the defence.
At 6-0 at half-time and with a large number of second half substitutions, the game lost a bit of its intensity. Rhys carried on his impressive performance and was unfortunate not to get at least one goal for his efforts. Cai slotted well into defence and Matthew, Benja and Ted enjoyed the space on the field. Dafydd and the defence were still kept busy, but the only goal of the second half was a well struck effort by Ieuan.
Rhys was rightly awarded man of the match, and the Teigrod enjoyed their second 7-0 Cup win in a row. Thanks to Sian for the photos.
Tesco U13 Cup Fixtures
Tesco U13 Cup Results
November 1st, Teigrod Teilo (6) v's Pontarddulais (0)
There was a good turn out on the Tre Gib Terraces for this slightly predictable fixture, but with Teigrod Teilo and Johnstown still the only two unbeaten teams in the league, next weeks home fixture against Johnstown is a six pointer if there ever was one and will decide the top of the table spot for the mid way point of the season. So tell your relatives, hire coaches (the 4 wheeled kind), change shifts, cancel your holiday... but be there, the lads deserve all the support they can get!!!
Meanwhile, back at the ranch... in today's match Pontarddulais rarely looked like scoring, to the point where Dafydd (the Teigrod keeper) had to be thawed out at half time, but to their credit Pontarddulais defended well for large swathes of this match and only allowed Llandeilo to net 3 goals in each half. The first was scored by Luke from a cross by Rhys, the second, Finley scored directly from the corner spot (helped along by some favourable wind conditions), and Hywel scored Llandeilo's third with a tasty well placed curler into the corner.
In the second half, Sion netted a piledriver following a great cross from William, Ieuan (man of the match) poached the 5th following some great team passing moves, and William scored a well deserved 6th. Ted, Mathew, Cai, Jack, & Johnny rarely put a foot wrong at the back, Celt was busy up front, and Alex came within a cats whisker of making it 7 for the day. But without wishing to over egg the pudding, next weeks home fixture will be a completely different kettle of fish and me and my parrot wouldn't miss it for all the tea in China.
(author's note; if any obvious clichés have been omitted from the above please let us know)
Tesco WWFA U13 Cup (Round 1)
October 25th, Teigrod Teilo (7) v's Pontarddulais (0)
This was a good natured game with both teams playing some beautiful football at times, but at the end of the day Pontarddulais rarely looked like scoring, largely thanks to the home teams off side trap being well executed by Johnny, Cai, and (man of the match) Jack.
The Teigrod midfield were resilient throughout, and up front Rhys, Celt, and (super sub) Ieuan all netted a goal each, with Luke bagging four for the day. A great start to the cup !!!
October 18th, Tumble (5) v's Teigrod Teilo (5)
This really was a game of two halves, Llandeilo won the first half 1-3 (although it should really have been at least 1-8 with the game dead and buried), and Tumble won the second half 4-2.
Celt opened the scoring early on, following some great build up play by Shawn and William (0-1), and new signing Shawn opened his account for the season with Llandeilo's second (0-2). Celt netted the away teams third from close range (0-3) and for a while, both teams were anticipating a one way rugby scoreline, but try as they might, Llandeilo just couldn't find the back of the net, it was one of those days, and sure enough, before the half time interval, Tumble (who had admirably hung on to the 3 goal deficit) pulled one back with a well deserved and well taken goal (1-3).
The second half belonged to Tumble who scored three consecutive goals to leave the league leaders a goal behind (4-3). Rhys stepped up to the plate with a great dribble and shot to make the game all square again (4-4), and although Llandeilo again had numerous chances to win the match, today they couldn't hit a barn door with a tractor. Whilst at the other end of the park, Dafydd (man of the match) was fending off Tumbles increasingly frequent efforts on goal, one of which finally found the net with minutes of the match remaining (5-4). With the very last kick of the match, Luke made it all square again (5-5), and in the end Llandeilo were lucky to get a point out of a game that they should have buried early on.
It's a funny old game!!!
October 11th, Teigrod Teilo (8) v's Camford (4)
At times this was quite a tense match for all concerned, but if you like to watch football that's played with skill, team work, and passion, then this match had it all.
Camford opened the scoring (0-1), and it looked for a short while that their Number 8 was going to boss the match as in previous encounters between these two sides, but then something happened... I don't know what Celt had eaten for breakfast, but whatever it was I'd recommend it, as the remainder of the first half belonged to the Llandeilo team, spearheaded by Celt's awesome finishing. His first and second goals were great shots (2-1), the third was thanks to pace and pressurising the Camford keeper (3-1), and the 4th... words fail me (4-1). Before half time Camford were given a lifeline back into the match with a well taken goal (4-2), but Llandeilo soon responded, and a goal mouth scuffle resulted in Luke (the herminator) netting the fifth (5-2).
In the second half Camford were understandably riled, and having just succumbed to a two footed tackle, Finley responded by putting the ball into the net (6-2), soon followed by another great finish from Celt for his 5th and the teams 7th (7-2). With 15 minutes remaining, both teams realised that the game was out of reach for Camford, and Llandeilo took the foot off the pedal, allowing the away team to pull two goals back (7-4), then with minutes remaining Mathew's shot was deflected goalward by Johnny's outstretched foot. If goals could be shared then both Mathew & Johnny should have half of this one each, but as (I'm reliably informed that) the local press will be crediting the goal to Mathew in the mid-week edition, in this column we're going to credit it to Johnny.
Little mention has thus far been made of the Llandeilo defence and midfield, who were strong & resilient across the park. Hywel, Alex, Rhys, & Ieuan were brave throughout and never allowed Camford to get a proper foothold in the game, and at the back - Ted, Cai, William, & Jack all made crucial tackles and quick thinking defensive decisions, and in goal, Dafydd (of course) made a couple of excellent saves when called upon to do so.
Although the man of the match award must rightfully go to Celt, this was a team effort with 14 contenders!!
October 4th, Teigrod Teilo (14) v's Dafen (2)
With rumours of a new signing on the horizon and at least five types of rain being blown around the Tre Gib pitch, Llandeilo went about the business of putting the ball into the back of the net. Finley opened the home teams account with two edge of the box specials and Nicky finished off the proceedings with two six yard poachers tap in's. Along the way both William and Rhys bagged well deserver hat-tricks (Rhys's second in two games), and the deadly duo of Celt (man of the match) and Luke (excellent throughout) both netted a pair each. Dafydd (the Llandeilo keeper) came close to scoring after he and Jack had swapped positions, whilst Hywel, Alex, & Ieuan were busy controlling things in midfield. At the back, Johnny, Cai, & Ted were impressive, and the defence only lost it's shape on two occasions resulting in the two Dafen goals.
The order of play was as follows: Finley (2-0), Rhys (3-0), Dafen (3-1), Celt (4-1), Luke (5-1), Celt (6-1), Rhys (7-1), Luke (8-1), William (9-1), Rhys (10-1), Dafen (10-2), William (12-2), Nicky (14-2).
Thanks to all the supporters who braved the elements. On paper, next weeks home match against Camford should be a more exacting test of this U13 squad, not least following Camford's defeat to Loughor, which currently leaves only Johnstown and Teigrod Teilo unbeaten in the league so far. A six pointer if there ever was one!!!
September 27th, Loughor (2) v's Teigrod Teilo (5)
The Tigers rarely allowed Loughor to get out of 3rd gear in this match, and were two goals up within ten minutes. The first was an own goal which Hywel could have claimed had the Loughor defender not helped the ball over the line (0-1),
the second was a great shot from Rhys (0-2). Rhys's second and Llandeilo's third was equally well finished following some excellent work by Alex in midfield (0-3). Loughor managed to pull one back before half time, placing an unstoppable shot past Jack (who gave a solid performance in goal) following a rare mistake in the Llandeilo defence (1-3).
The tea cups must have been flying during the Lougher half time team talk as within minutes of the re-start Lougher had pulled another goal back (2-3), but minutes later Rhys finished off a well deserved hat trick (2-4), and with 20 minutes to go that was just about it in terms of Lougher posing any kind of threat, and with 10 minutes remaining Celt put the game out of reach for the league champions (2-5).
Worthy of note in this match was the work of the Llandeilo defence (all 11 of them when needed). Johnny, Cai, Mathew, William, & Finley rarely put a foot wrong at the back. Alex, Hywel, & Nicky were busy in midfield, and up front both Ieuan & Luke were unlucky not to find the net.
Thanks to all the travelling supporters (you know who you are and we know where you live), the next two Saturdays are both home games, so lets see if we can pack out the Tre Gib Terraces!!
September 20th, Kidwelly (0) v's Teigrod Teilo (3)
On this gloriously sunny morning Llandeilo were perhaps expecting a walk in the park, but Kidwelly were galvanised by the shock of the previous week and had decided to make a game of this home fixture, to the extent that a Finley free kick was the only difference between the two teams at half time (0-1).
In the second half the Kidwelly defence continued to make it difficult for the Llandeilo attack and midfield, especially their central defender (number 4). The dead lock was eventually only broken by another Llandeilo dead ball set play - Johnny heading the ball home from a Finley corner (0-2). Benja and Ieuan combined to put away the third (0-3), and only the Kidwelly cross bar prevented Hywel from netting a fourth.
This was an enjoyable match to watch from a neutrals perspective, although, like the Tre Gib pitch, the Kidwelly turf could have been a couple of inches shorter, in which case the ball play itself might have been sharper. Worthy of note was Mathew's performance in defence, and once again Alex was consistent throughout in midfield.
Teigrod Teilo remain at the top of the table but only by virtue of their lack of goals conceded. Had Kidwelly found the net today, Llandeilo would be in third place - with Johnstown sneaking up on the rails - it's that close!!!
September 13th, Teigrod Teilo (11) v's Kidwelly (0)
It took Teigrod fifteen minutes to score their first goal, during which time Kidwelly could and possibly should have been two goals ahead, but thanks to Dafydd's goal keeping the score remained 0-0 until Hywel stepped up to open the scoring with a Captain's goal (1-0), soon followed by goals from Rhys (dribbling past the Kidwelly keeper) and Luke (netting a poachers goal following a fumble from a Finley shot). Rhys, Luke, and Hywel all got a second goal before half time, the latter made by a great cross field pass from William on the wing (6-0).
Within minutes of the second half whistle being blown, Hywel had found the corner of the net for his hat-trick following some great build up passing play from the team (7-0). Ieuan opened his account for the season with a cross (we think) that found it's way into the net through a packed goalmouth (8-0), and Johnny claimed his first headed goal of the season (although the ball did scrape both Finley's head and a Kidwelly defenders hand on it's way into the net) to make it 9-0. Ieuan got his second by pressurising the now demoralised Kidwelly keeper (10-0), and having previously hit the cross bar twice, Finley finally found the net to make it 11-0.
At the other end of the park, Jack, Ted, Mathew, Johnny and Cai were all strong in defence, and in the midfield Alex was a controlling influence throughout. In fact all of the thirteen strong squad who turned up on the day played their part in this victory, and aside from a couple of close scrapes in defence early on, the team played well across the park throughout the match, and all four of the new boys gave a good account of themselves, but although the headlines for this week are "TIGERS TOP TABLE ON OPENING DAY" there will be far more difficult and exacting tasks ahead, and no room for complacency - but a cracking start none the less!
Fair play to the Kidwelly boys who took it on the chin and continued to play with a sporting and professional attitude (particularly their number 4).
