Teigrod Teilo Under 8s in the Carmarthen Mini League Under 9's Cup Competition
Teigrod Teilo under 8's team had a fantastic end to their 2008 - 09 season by reaching the finals of the Carmarthen Mini League under 9's cup competition on Saturday 9 May 2009. The team were in a tough group and lost their first game against Bulls A 3 - 0 but were unlucky to lose 1 - 0 against Bancffosfelen in their second game. However, they bounced back to win their third group game 2 - 1 against Kidwelly B.
They then went through to the semi-final and beat Llandovery 1 - 0 which was a hard fought game against a strong Llandovery side with a number of players much bigger than the Teigrod Teilo boys. This set Teigrod Teilo up for a nail biting final against Peniel who are a fast, talented team but despite all Peniel's efforts they could only beat Teigrod Teilo by 2 goals to 1. It was a fine performance of guts and determination by Teigrod Teilo throughout the morning with goals from Iestyn McAvoy, Christopher Evans and Llew Humphries. There was also some great defensive work from Ryan Thomas, Owen Evans and Ioan Edwards repelling attack after attack from the opposition. William Thurtle was magnificent in goal saving many shots from point blank range and Ciaran Duff, Owain Roberts and Rhodri Peters were strong and imaginative in midfield keeping the Teigrod Teilo end of the pitch safe from attack and providing many a useful ball to the strikers up front. In all it was a great team performance and provided exciting entertainment for Teigrod Teilo's supporters.
Unfortunately, each side was only allowed to take a maximum of 10 players to the competition and some members of the Teigrod squad were not able to attend but the contribution of players such as Dafydd Daniel, Jack Thomas, Louis Auger, Jack Miller and Joe Locke to the season that Teigrod Teilo have enjoyed should not be forgotten. We look forward to an exciting 2009 - 10 season and thanks to all the parents and coaches who have contributed to the success of the team.

1st November 2008
It was a bitterly cold November day on the astro turf at Carmarthen but Teigrod Teilo under 8’s kept their supporters warm with some entertaining and exciting football. They played their usual four games in just over an hour, first of all forcing Carmarthen B to a 0 – 0 draw. This was due to some great defensive work from Ryan Thomas who cleared his lines several times to deny Carmarthen B. Teigrod were unlucky not to score with a fast break from Christopher Evans almost leading to an opening goal. Next they suffered a narrow 1 nil defeat to a strong Bulls B side. This game also involved strikes on goal from Owain Roberts and William Thurtle, which meant Teigrod were unlucky to lose the game. There were also some good saves in goal from Ciaran Duff against an attacking Bulls B side. Teigrod’s third game heralded their first well deserved win as they beat Bancffosfelen 1 – 0 with a goal from Owain Roberts. Dafydd Daniels was strong in defence and made some useful passes up the line. Teigrod’s fourth and final game of the day was against Johnstown B against whom they lost 3 – 0. Without subs, the team were looking tired by the end of the last game but the team still played with their heads up. Good defensive work by Louis Auger and Ryan Thomas helped keep the score down. It was a much improved team performance with good passing, positional play, great defence and strong goalkeeping.
The team sheet was Ciaran Duff (Goal Keeper) and outfield players Owain Roberts, William Thurtle, Ryan Thomas, Dafydd Daniels, Christopher Evans and Louis Auger. Jack Thomas was unfortunately taken ill on the day and was unable to play.
18th October 2008
The team played with more shape this week, and although the results went against them, there were definite signs of improvement.
The first match saw them lose 3-1 to Peniel, although the Teigrod needed to lend Peniel two players. Final score was 3-1, with William Thurtle coolly slotting home for us. One of the Peniel goals came from an unlucky own goal following a Peniel corner.
The second match was tight, with Llandovery narrowly winning 1-0.
The third match was aginst an experienced Kidwelly team who ran out 3-0 winners despite some excellent goalkeeping by Ciaran Duff. Again Teigrod were unlucky to concede an own goal at a corner.
The whole team played with spirit and determination and with more experience the results will surely come
4th October 2008
A tough start for the Teigrod on their first outing as an under 8's team on the Astroturf at Johnstown. The weather was atrocious (sideways rain!) and they were up against some experienced teams. Despite this, they played with enthusiasm and spirit but weren't rewarded with any goals and ended up losing all three matches.
